Poul Henningsen

Standing at 1 metre 30cm tall, our Poul Henningsen VOGA style 3½ - 2½ Floor Lamp is a striking addition to any home. The lamp features a three-tier curved opal glass shade that softly diffuses light and directs the majority of the light downwards. The top and widest glass layer is approximately 30-35cm, hence the 3½ in the title. The tubular stem of the lamp is constructed from chrome and comes in a choice of three finishes - aluminium, gold or black.

The story behind the PH 3½ - 2½ Floor Lamp

Poul Henningsen designed the 3½ - 2½ Floor Lamp in the mid-1920s as part of a collection of lamps called the PH 3 series. Poul Henningsen was obsessed with light and he can be said to be the world's first lighting architect - and architect who devoted his life to lighting. The lamps were all designed to diffuse light and create a more peaceful, atmospheric lighting experience. The mathematical-sounding names refer to the different diameters of the lamps' shades.

1894-1967 (Denmark)

Often said to be the first lighting architect, Danish designer, Poul Henningsen devoted much of his life to exploring the importance of light for well-being. Believing people should not be subject to the direct glare of an electrical light source, he focused on creating lamps that produced glare-free illumination. His self-titled PH series was his most famous collection and included the PH 3/2 Table Lamp, the PH Artichoke, the PH5 and PH 3½ - 2½ Floor Lamp.
